FUN MONDAY - Today's Your Birthday

It’s FUN MONDAY time again are our host, that Symphonic IamwhoIam Oh wait that’s me so sorry.

The Assignment - Let’s hear about your favorite “Birthday”, it needn’t be your actual birthday just a "birthday" celebration. You can use one you planned, one you attended, one you crashed, just a fun time for this FUN MONDAY.

Well I remember my last B’day - I spent the whole day out with some really good friends, the type of friends that you know they have your back and would do anything for you. Not the type that would bail you out of jail, but the type that would be in the cell with you. We went out to the islands off the coast of Florida and hiked around the trails, (I got to see a naked gay man it was too funny). After lunch we spent some time exploring an excluded beach. We ended the day with a lovely late night dinner, that shortly after dessert I puke up. (NO I Don’t have an eating disorder I just can’t eat too much or too fast and I ate way too much way too fast). But still it was one of my better Birthdays. Chris and Ana I love you guys, you to Sue even if you could come down and play that day.

As a kid we didn’t celebrate B’days much there would be a cake, and the tin of used candles would be brought out and the B’day boy/girl could blow out the candles. As for gifts Mom would often get you a little gift and say it was for your birthday, like a new pair of shorts in June, my Birthday is in Nov. but that was no importance the shorts in June were for my Birthday.
There are a few Birthday our family celebrates, your 7th. No idea why. You have a big party with all your friends. I still remember bits and pieces of it, like the marzipan berries that my Mother and sister made for the day, they were too pretty to eat, but they were so very good once you did. One berry was place on each of the cupcakes. There were games and more goodies, and everyone who attended got a little gift bag to take home, it was a good but buzy day and I was tired of being a host long before everyone left.

The other big Birthday is the big 30. I was working in Albuquerque, NM on mine, one of the few times I was working in the office and not in the field. I wasn’t thinking much about my B’day, just another day at the office. First along come the Florist, I think nothing of it “one of the clerks getting flowers from a Boyfriend“ - nope Flower for me, by lunch I had close to a dozen bouquets. The Family had also arrange for a cake and lunch for the entire office. Now all this attention isn’t really to my taste but you see the family was excited. On my Dad’s side of the family you either die by some strange accident before your 30 or you live for what seams like for ever, and as the youngest it was a day of celebration that I had now joined the group that would most likely now see my 80th, 90th and possibility 100th , despite my best efforts in my youth. My Farther is celebrating his 90th and he has still has one aunt alive, and his farther live till he was 80.

Side note I do believe if asked my age I will say around 55 - it isn't quite a lie just depends on how you round, and this way they will say dang you look good for 55.

THANKS FOR STOPPING BY and I hope you enjoyed your FM

I'm glad you're in the long living group. I never really thought about it but it's the same way in my family. I had a great-uncle die at 16 and one at 21 but everyone else has lived for ages. I just lost my great-grandma a few years back and she was 96. :)

I'm so sorry I didn't sign up. I still have pictures of my 39th. My hubby hired a male stripper and sent him down to the racket club - where I was playing. My girlfriends were in on it.

It was the most embarrassing moment ever.

I even have pictures hidden away somewhere.....

I'm giggling at Pamela's comment...I had a stipper when I turned 21..I was mortified! (maybe I wrote about the wrong thing!)

But back to you...I'm also glad you are of the long-living group. I think it's interesting that 7 and 30 are the big ones in your family.

Different family traditions are very interesting. As a child my parents didn't make much of birthdays. I only ever had one party when I was 14 and I never really celebrate my birthday. However I have always had a big celebration for my own daughters, and of course my daughter does the same for the grandchildren.
My mum will be celebrating her 85th at the end of the yr and she had an uncle who reached 103 and an aunt 93 (I nearly included their 90 and 100th birthday pictures in my post).

Pamela should be sharing those pictures LOL!!!

Thank you for hosting this festive Fun Monday. My mother used to tell this joke that she came from a line of long livers. then, she would hold her hands a distance apart and say, "their livers were this long." Her mother did live to be 97, and my paternal grandmother lived almost until her 93rd birthday. You and I must come from a line of long livers too. Happy 90th to your father.

I’ve enjoyed learning a bit more about your celebrations here. Because I lived at home until I was married (and because my ‘ex’ wasn’t the partying type) I never had a birthday with friends like you’ve described here. Birthdays in my family weren’t celebrated much either … and I have almost no memories of those occasions. I did have a boyfriend when I turned 16 who threw me a lovely surprise party (crashed by another boyfriend briefly creating a bit of chaos that fortunately didn’t last long or ruin things for me). When I turned 50 my friends wanted to wear black, but I told them I was calling that birthday my ‘Crone’s Ceremony’ and wearing RED! I encouraged them to celebrate in like manner with me, and most did … though my family went with ‘black’ for whatever reason. And now that I type this here, I’m thinking I might add this info to my Fun Monday post this morning just because.
Hugs and blessings,

Your last birthday sounds like the perfect way to celebrate; easy going and in the company of those who love you to pieces :).

It's really a GOOD idea not to make a big shabang out of every birthday growing up; that makes the ones you DO even more special :).

Thanks for hosting this week...I think you've put everyone in a celebratory mood :).

Your 90 year old dad still has a living AUNT??? You weren't kidding!

Of course, my family is rather long-lived too. If some accident doesn't take them out, 100 seems to be the cut-off.

Congratulations on passing that "dangerous age" and continuing on!

I enjoyed the marzipan berries! And I love how you said your mom would buy you a present anytime of year. Birthdays can be alot of fun, whether celebrated in a grand way or simple way.

I'm sorry I didn't give any help for your planning of the party. I've just always gotten together with family, ate a lunch and some cake and chatted.

Perhaps we share a Nov. birthday? Mine is the 14th. What a unique family tradition to make a big deal of only certain birthdays. Why7? I hope you have a life expectancy that's just perfect by your standards--not to short, not to long.

Late making Fun Monday rounds this week--life is getting in the way of important things like blogging!
