I want to know about your first ‘celebrity’ crush. You know, the one you fancied from that band, or that film, or who read the news, or who won Gold at the Olympics
This assignment proved to be difficult. No poster or pin-up no celebrity crushes. The bedroom décor was darn near that of a monastic cell. A world map on the back of the door and a picture of Jesus.
Can’t remember when it first started but:
1. Actors are nothing more the very pretty professional liars. Isn’t it a PLAY that they put on.
2. Athletes are nothing more than over grown kids that PLAY a game.
3. And Musicians while there is talent, again they PLAY for a living.
All of these thing are activates you do for entertainment, not something to be admired or adored it is PLAY. The gavaging of celerity sicken me. So no celebrity crushes. Sorry for being sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo dull.

this is exactly how I feel nowadays...but 25 years ago..not so much..thank goodness I grew up though!
I agree with Alison. I was a sucker for a cute teen star back in the day. Today, not so much.

But credit is due some great atheletes and musicians who've worked very hard to be proficient. They had to be ambitious, dedicated, and consistent in their work ethics to make their goal. How I love to hear a symphony play... yes play... but they worked!!
I love to watch an accomplished ice-skater float effortlessly over the ice. But the effort was there.
notice I didn't mention actors? I'm on strike from them this year. (:

I, too, never quite understood the swooning over celebrities; although Barry Manilow and one other made it through that barrier (although they never made it to a poster on my wall).
I can understand that NOW, but back then? Raging hormones had to find an outlet somewhere and kids weren't just jumping into bed at the drop of a hat back then. Crushes were a harmless and safe outlet. Perhaps they should make a comeback!!

While I will agree that athletes are extremely overpaid for playing a game(you could feed a whole town in Bolivia for what they make in a year), I cannot say the same for actors and musicians. Besides, the question wasn't about money or ethics...it was about the first crush you had when you were a kid! BEFORE such moral questions entered our brains. Geeeeesh....
I bet "the truth" is that you had an extreme hankering for Mr. Greenjeans on the Captain Kangaroo show and are just too embarasses to admit it.
You have same very good points. I was never the kind of going crazy and scream over any celebrities. But having a healthy crush I think is only part of being a teenager. I like your honesty though.

It's great you are honest. I do feel celebrities are treated very differently these days to how they were when I was growing up in the 50's.

I hear you. Today, I'm afraid to really get excited about a politician or other celebrity. They always seem to disappoint. Not my state of mind many years ago though.

I am with you on that, but didn't give it such clinical thought, just thought the crushes were weird.
Very valid points and very honest too! But then, what is life without a little fantasy to escape to now and again!?
Your feelings are my feelings now (I don't know the names of people who play on Tv and Movies anymore) but I was VERY succeptible to crushes way back when. Being an only child for so long and having less than interested parents, I had to occupy my time and mind with something!!
